Kindergartners @ KWGS: Young Students from Lee Elementary Recently Visited Our Studios

"Lee's in the House!" (Ms. Henke's Kindergartners Visit Public Radio Tulsa at TU)

Last week, we at Public Radio Tulsa (KWGS and KWTU) were very pleased to welcome Ms. Henke's Kindergarten Class from Lee Elementary School. The students have lately been learning about sound waves, echoes, vibrations, and related concepts, so a visit to a nearby radio station seemed like a great way to see (and hear!) such ideas in action.

Our producer/host/editor Scott Gregory was on hand to receive and chat with the children --- and help corral them --- when they arrived at our studios in Kendall Hall on the University of Tulsa campus. He also gave them the proverbial dime tour and recorded them as they all sang a song in our tiny yet soundproof workspace known as Studio F.

The kids sang "This Land Is Your Land" --- you can access an audio stream of this recording (as well as several photos) immediately below --- since the next stop on their day-long field trip was to be the Woody Guthrie Center in downtown Tulsa.

Oh, and they even got to check out the TUTV television studio and sound stage, which is located right next to our facilities (in Kendall Hall's Studio B). Pretty cool!

When asked what they liked most about visiting Public Radio Tulsa, several of the students replied: "All the microphones."

Thanks for coming, kids! Go, Lee Leopards!

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
